I have never done a yearly recap post, but I thought it would be fun to look back on 2011. This was not such a great year for our family. We have been through a lot, some things I have not shared and some I have, but we have grown stronger as a family because of it.
It all started actually the last week of 2010, but let’s just say it was Jan. 2011. Erik broke his jaw while we were doing a P90x workout in our basement and had to get his jaw wired shut for 6 weeks. A week after he had his wires removed we went on our very first snowboarding trip. In February, my company decided to start a weight loss campaign called “Build a Better You”, which was a complete sham, because people cheated like crazy. I don’t understand why people cheat in those types of competition; don’t they understand that they are only cheating themselves? Ugh, frustrating.
At the end of the month, we headed to Whitetail resort for a snowboarding trip. The first day we were there it rained, I fell down and hit my head, so we decided to count our blessings and call it a day. The very next day, Mother Nature blessed us with amazing weather and we hit the slopes again.
In March, I decided to start a photo project that lasted about two weeks. Hopefully I will stick to it this time. I realized that it has been 5- heartbreaking years since my dad passed away, and I bought my mom, sister and I matching rings (a love knot with my dad’s birthstone in the middle). My aunt, uncle and cousin from Iran came to visit us for the first time EVER!
My baby car died at the end of March, which was really hard for me because my mom and dad bought me that car when I turned 16. I learned how to coupon, and had some great adventures. I also attended my very first Running of the Brides craziness to help my friend Patti pick out a wedding dress.
In May, I celebrated my 26th birthday by getting a NEW JOB, which was one of the highlights of 2011. We then got to watch two of our best friends Richie and Alaina get married. Good times were had. Later in the month Erik’s car was hit by a random flying object off the back of a pickup truck, and we counted our blessings that he was not injured. After that I realized my baby car was creating a lot of bad juju in the driveway so I heavy-heartedly donated it. I cried (obviously), but I am happy to know that I helped a less fortunate family out by donating it.
In June I started my new job, signed up for my very first race, and had lunch with my mom every Friday. It was glorious. We played in the rain at the Mumford & Son’s Concert, and saw Third Eye Blind at the Fairfax fair. We headed to Uncle Sam Jam for a fourth of July firework show and concert by Pat McGee Band. That is really where all the fun ended, kinda.
In mid July I was in a car accident which tore my Labrum and totaled my car. I supposed it wasn’t all bad because I bought a new car and met some wonderful people at physical therapy. The month of August was good to us. We went to Busch Gardens with our wonderful friends Brandon and Erin, my cousins from London came to the states to surprise us for about a week, and I got my very own SLR camera! We celebrating our two year wedding anniversary and took a trip to Vancouver for my cousin’s wedding. Unfortunately, I found out that I had to have shoulder surgery at the end of the month, but I knew that was coming. I had my first, and hopefully last, MRI. I showed everyone what my shoulder MRI looked like, super awesome, and scheduled my shoulder surgery. I went through a lot of different emotions, in the next few week/months. It was rough.
In October, I went to my first Caps game, saw two of our good friend’s Jan and Sarah get married and had my surgery. At the end of the month, Erik and I signed up for our first half marathon and we ran our 10k. I decided I wanted to raise money and run in honor of my dad for my first half marathon.
In November, we watched our other friends Patti and Ramsey get married and celebrated like it was 1999! And then the holiday season started, and along with it came a lot of delicious eats. We hosted Thanksgiving at our house again this year, with amazing food and family.
Then came December J. We went to Charlotte, NC with Brandon and Erin to watch the ACC championship game. We also celebrated our 10-year dating anniversary this year by going on a date to our favorite restaurant, Bone Fish. I did my first blog giveaway and was CLEARED to run, glorious!
The last two weeks of December have been awesome, seriously. We hosted an ugly sweater party and I got to know my coworkers better. Then the best news of all, after working his butt off for the past four years, Erik got a well deserved promotion. Needless to say, we have been celebrating since then :).
All in all, 2011 was not too bad; I think the best way to describe it would be to say it was a crazy rollercoaster year. I hope that 2012 brings us (and of course all of you) more joy, health, and success!
Have a safe and happy New Years Eve!
