31 Weeks!

Hello friends!

31 Weeks…9 to go.. We.are.in.single.digits! When did this happen?

I feel like I will be saying that every week now. My twinsie Erin only has FIVE WEEKS left, insanity, I cannot wait to meet little foot.  The only bad part about being pregnant at the same time as your good friend who lives far away is that you probably won’t be able to see them for a few months after the baby is born 😦  I am convinced that Patti and I will be in the hospital at the same time, since our due dates are only a few days apart!

Here we are at 31 weeks! I can’t tell if my belly is getting bigger, mainly because I just feel huge all the time now.  Putting on shoes is a chore, at the end of a long day of walking I have to ask Erik to take my shoes off for me because I cannot even bend over to reach them.  Liam doesn’t like getting squished. He has been moving like crazy. I took some videos on my phone but the quality suuuucks so I deleted them, but now that we bought a camcorder I am hoping to take a good video and post it up here next week 🙂 I love how active he is all day now, sometimes I am caught off guard at work and his kicks are so strong they startle me, but they still bring a huge smile to my face. I get home from work everyday and spend at least 20 minutes laying on our bed just starting at my belly watching him move. This week my back pain has been horrible. I notice it a lot when I’ve been standing a lot 😦 aka cooking dinner, I guess I should have worked my back muscles a little more before I got pregnant.  Erik is really good at back rubs though so I’ll survive 🙂

Yesterday afternoon we had our bi-weekly doctors appointment and it wasn’t all fun and games.  Unfortunately, it seems that my blood pressure has been rising in the past two appointments. Bleh.  I started out at 116/69 and yesterday my blood pressure was up to 132/72… She said she wants to keep a close eye on it because I am pre-hypertensive which can lead to hypertension and even pre-eclampsia, which is not good.

With that being said, yesterday was a terrible day food wise.  I had incredibly WAY too much salt yesterday and not enough water, which I think is the real reason for my higher blood pressure, but I won’t be taking a chance, so I am changing my ways. I have switched myself to a low sodium diet, which will include recipes from my Clean eating magazine for dinner and salads for lunch.  I will also try and get outside after lunch for a brief walk, and after work try and go to the gym with Lejia to walk on the treadmill for 30-60 minutes.  My next appointment is in two weeks and I am hoping that this will be enough to lower my blood pressure naturally.

I am totally ashamed that I have been so lack luster with my diet and exercise throughout my pregnancy and it takes something like this to be a wake up call for me.  I will be praying daily that I can bring my blood pressure down to a normal level with this change in diet and exercise. Pray for us okay? He is NOT ready to come out yet and I need my body to cooperate.

According to babycenter.com, “This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He’s probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby’s kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy.”

Hang in there girl! You have the right strategy for lowering your BP, I think you do it 🙂 I know my carb cravings/intake have been pretty crazy all through my pregnancy, and was especially conscious of not going overboard with them last week because of my glucose test. I think we’re just trying to give our bodies what they seem to want while we’re pregnant! Anyway, good luck!!

Aww don’t be ashamed. You’ve been doing so many things right, and it’s clear that you care so much. This could have happened to anyone. You’ll get your BP down and be in my prayers!!
