Liam’s Birth Story

Hello friends!

I knew babies were a lot of work but thing have been crazy around here. I wanted to take some time and document Liam’s birthday 🙂

January 30 we woke up and headed out the door for the last time as a family of two (three since we are counting Ella) and headed to the hospital eager to meet out son. We checked in and headed to triage to get checked out.  Things were moving along and they came in and took some blood to see how my high blood pressure was effecting my body.  We had to wait for the results to come back in order for me to be moved into an actual room.  We sat in triage for FIVE hours!  It was the most miserable five hours of my life.  The temperature outside was about 70 degrees and it felt about 90 inside the hospital.  While we were waiting there was a woman who came in at 7 cm dilated screaming bloody murder.  The nurse came in and assured me that the screaming lady waited way too long to come into the hospital and that I would not be in that much pain.

The nurse who was taking care of me runs in at noon and says we have to move now, before another lady who is 7 cm dilated comes into the hospital.  So we moved as fast as we could into the room..IMG_9414After I was all settled in they started the pitocin drip..IMG_9417They hooked me up to the baby monitors, mine is the one on the bottom, FW307-01- Liam’s heartbeat is on the top and my contractions are on the bottom.

IMG_9415 IMG_9418The nurse asked me when and if I was getting an epidural and I told her I wanted it as soon as I could get it.  Especially after seeing how busy the hospital was that day, I asked for it about an hour and a half after the pitocin drip started. Then we waited… a really long time until it was time for me to push.

I started pushing at about 8:25 and I pushed for a total of 45 minutes (my doctor says I was a rock star) and finally he was here.
IMG_9435 IMG_9437 IMG_9439 IMG_9443 and just like that we both fell  head over heels for this little guy.  I feel like I have been waiting my whole life to meet him and now that he is here I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect addition to our little family. IMG_9454

Stay tuned for more posts this week about our days in the hospital, the first few days at home and a little post about pregnancy weight gain 🙂

I hope everyone has a great day!
