My little guy is Six months old today..
I can’t decide if I am slightly sad that he is already 6 months old or happy, maybe a bit of both. This month Liam has grown up so much. As I’ve mentioned before Liam is teething, well he now has two teeth!
The second one came in last week. Seeing Liam smile and show off his two bottom teeth kills me. And luckily he is such a happy baby we see those little teeth all the time.
As you can see this month he also started sitting up on his own and is loving it. He actually gets upset most of the time when he is laying down. I think he associates it with going to sleep. Oh gosh.. sleeping is starting to become an issue. At first I believe his constant night waking was due to teething, but now I think it has become a habit and I am creating a situation where I am the only person that can soothe him to sleep in the middle of the night. This has GOT to stop. Now that he is six months old, we are thinking of really sleep training him. I know I’ve talked about it in the past but that was mostly for daytime naps. Nighttime sleep training is going to be really hard. I need to read some more about it before I can do it, but I am hoping to start sometime this weekend.
Erik and I have talked about letting him cry in his bed for at least 10 minutes when he wakes up in the middle of the night to see if he will put himself back to sleep, so that is where we are going to start. I will be keeping notes for myself as well as so that I can write a blog post about it for other moms struggling with sleep training. I really hope it works because I am turning into a sleep deprived monster.
Another thing that has changed this month is that I cannot nurse him in public with my nursing cover on. Every time he sees it now he thinks it’s a game, I put him under the cover and he won’t stop flapping his arms and laughing. It’s really cute, but when we are in a hurry to get somewhere it is frustrating.
Liam has his 6 month check up tomorrow, more shots L. But I am excited to see how much he weighs and how long he is. I am also going to ask about his back… I haven’t mentioned it here before but Liam leans to the right a lot of the time and seeing how all of Erik’s sisters have scoliosis we are trying to be cautious. I really hope it normal and something that he will grow out of as he is sitting up more and getting stronger, but who knows. It will be nice to get the doctors’ opinion on the matter.
Just this past week, he started to roll over on his tummy while he is in his crib. He has rolled over quite a bit before but now he is starting to do it more constantly. I think that is part of the reason he has been waking up at night too, he still doesn’t like sleeping on his tummy.
He also talks up a storm.. He has been saying “dada dada dada” all the time, now I don’t think he actually knows what he is saying but it’s cute regardless. Solids are going well. Well sort of.. he only seems to like Orange foods, squash, carrots, and sweet potatoes. I’ve tried peas (once and he hated it but I will try again soon) and applesauce (also didn’t care too much for it). I don’t think he likes the texture of the applesauce, so I might try and thin it out or something.. I haven’t decided. But in the coming weeks we are going to try bananas, avocados, peas (again) and mangos. I went to Baby’s-R-Us and bought 20 single food baby food jars and will be trying those flavors before I make anything myself. I bought: prunes, bananas, carrots, winter squash, butternut squash, and pears. Hopefully he will start liking more of a variety of foods.
