Our baby princess is a week old already. I can hardly believe it.
She is just the sweetest little baby; well most of the time, but I will get into that later. This week has really flown by. We were very lucky that Erik could take the entire week off to be at home with us. I think having him home with us this week has really helped me heal and get back on my feet faster than last time. Having him home has also allowed us to spend some time together adjusting as a family of four!Quinn’s first week of life started out a lot like Liam’s. We left the hospital on Saturday February 1 and headed home to show Liam his new sister. We recorded the first time Liam met Quinn and it was the cutest thing I have ever seen.
Sorry she was screaming her head off when we brought her home because she was hungry. I can’t stop watching this video, it makes me cry every time. Liam has been adjusting well to his new sister. He is the sweetest kid and wants to share all of his toys with her. It is going to be so much fun to watch them grow up together.
The Tuesday after we brought her home, we took her to the pediatrician for her routine check up. The doctor said she looked a little jaundice, so they pricked her little foot and took some blood. We left the office feeling pretty good. I was shopping at buy buy baby when I got the call that her bilirubin level was a little on the high side. The doctor said we had to put her on a bili blanket 24/7 and bring her in the following day for more blood work. They said if her levels didn’t go down we would have to take her to the hospital.
I was really stressed out as you can imagine, but we kept the bili blanket on her all day and night in hopes of avoiding a hospital trip. We took her to the doctor the following day and she said Quinn looked great and with the blood work to confirm her levels were coming down, she said we could take her off of the blanket. Quinn also weighed in at 6 lbs 7 oz; she had gained 4 oz in less than 24 hours. The doctor wanted to see her one more time, so we made another appointment for Friday. At her Friday appointment, Quinn weighed in at 7lbs!!! I love hearing that our baby is growing well.
The first couple of nights were really rough; she had her days and nights confused. The first night home was awful; we were up all night. I think she had really bad gas, and I was really worried it was something I ate. I kept an eye on it and thankfully, it does not appear to be dairy related. We have been working to correct the sleeping problem and it is getting better. She is more awake and alert during the daytime and will actually sleep for 2-3 hours at night. The only issue we have now, is that she wakes up around 2 am and is up for about 2 hours. I’m not really sure why, but it realllly needs to stop. I have about 7 weeks to fix it before I head back to work.
If anyone has suggestions, please share them with us, we will try anything.
Alright my little lady is awake and in need of some cuddles 😉 I hope everyone has a great day!
