Over a week late but better late than never!
Quinn’s birth story is a little more entertaining than Liam’s was; only because it was totally unexpected. I was induced with Liam so I had no idea what real contractions and labor had in store for me.
I woke up Saturday (1/31/15) morning at 4:30 to use the bathroom and I thought my water had broken. I used the bathroom and laid back down, deciding I would call the doctor when we woke up at 6. As I was laying there, I figured I would do a little research to see when I should call my doctor. It turns out that the interwebs suggests that if you suspect your water has broken you should call your doctor right away.
At this point I was feeling a little bit of cramping in my lower abdomen. I went downstairs and called my doctor’s office. Unfortunately, I found out that neither of the doctor’s in my practice were on call that weekend. They had me call a different practice, and the lady called me five minutes after I made the call. I felt really bad for her because she had no idea who I was. I told her I thought my water had broken and that I was having lower back and abdomen cramps. She told us to head to the hospital!
I called my mom and asked her to come over to stay with Liam while we went to the hospital. Erik and I both took showers and headed to the hospital as soon as my mom got to our house.
My contractions were getting stronger and stronger, and I was not a fan. Erik dropped me off and went to go park the car. I was signing in and he called me to let me know that there were no tickets to let him into the parking garage. He had to park all the way across the hospital. The lady took me up to the labor and delivery floor and set me up in a triage “room”.
We were finally put into a room and I got my epidural. Next, we waited.. and waited. Luckily we didn’t have to wait as long as we did with Liam, but Erik did get bored and started doing push-ups.
Around noon, it was time to start pushing. The doctor wanted to take it slow to reduce the recovery time, and boy am I glad she did. I pushed and pushed, and was ready to give up. Erik looked at me and reassured me that I was close and to just keep going, so I did, and after 45 minutes of pushing she was out!
It was love at first sight. She already has both mom and dad wrapped around her little fingers. And there you have it, Quinn’s birth story 🙂
I hope everyone has a great day! Check back tomorrow for a post pregnancy weight loss update!
