My new “diet”

Hello friends!

I hope everyone is doing well! Things are going well over here, I wanted to check in with a non-baby related post updating you all on my current food situation. I put diet in quotes because I don’t want to call it a diet. I am really trying to change the way I eat because it has been making me feel better.

Let’s back up… About a week ago I decided I needed to change my eating habits. I was just eating whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and I knew that needed to change. I want to get back into pre baby shape and that involves eating like I used to. I thought about kick starting my healthy eating habits by going back on South Beach, but I’ve tried starting South Beach about 100 different times and I can never stick to it. I don’t get it, I should be able to stick to it, I mean the one and only time I actually did it, I lost 30 lbs.  But for some reason, I can’t get motivated to stick to it.

So I’m trying something new, I am learning the ways of the Paleo diet. It has only been three days, but so far so good. I seem to be feeling better and in fact Quinn seems to be happier too. I am not sure if I have mentioned this in her weekly posts (prob not) but she has been very fussy after certain feedings during the day.  I cannot figure out what it is, so I am trying a diet change to see if that helps. So far so good, she seems to be happier after feedings and has less gas and spit ups.

I am still learning the Paleo diet ropes and I think it will take me a bit to get used to it, but so far I like it. Cutting out dairy has been the hardest part of the whole thing, but I think I will manage. I might slip up here and there (aka birthday cake for certain special birthdays) but for the most part I will be 99.9% Paleo.  I don’t know for how long, but I am going to do it as long as it is making me feel good and I keep seeing improvements in Quinn’s happiness.

Last night I made Stuffed Flank Steak and it was amazing!  You can find the recipe here.

I added a little onion and more garlic than the recipe asked for but it was well worth it. We will be making this again, and I plan on playing around with the inside stuffing.

The good thing about this change.. I’ve been eating a LOT more veggies and fruit. And I think that is what I like about this; on South Beach I couldn’t eat certain veggies and absolutely no fruit. That is a killer, I love fruit so much.

I need to figure out a system of cooking once I go back to work. I think I will have to dedicate parts of my Saturday planning meals and parts of Sunday cooking them for the week. I will keep updating as I get into the swing of things. For now, I am off to do a workout and eat some more veggies!
