Happy Half Birthday Quinny!

Hello friends!

This post is LONG overdue, but better late than never. Our little Qbear is already 6 months old (as of July 31, 2015). I honestly cannot believe she is already 6 months old.

11828545_10103683553181753_6481742939440380419_nShe has grown up so much in the past few weeks that it is really hard to keep up. We just started her on solids, HOORAY, and I am happy to report she LOVES food. I will be going into more detail in her weekly posts, but lets just say she is a foodie, like her momma. Our doctor gave us the go ahead to start feeding her meat and all sorts of fun stuff, but I don’t think her stomach is ready yet. A good friend of mine, who is a doctor and has three children of her own, told me something about solids. Maybe this is common knowledge but I didn’t know… I told her that we were giving Quinn steel cut oats because I didn’t want to feed her rice cereal, and she told me that her stomach might not be ready to digest it yet. I asked her how I would know if her stomach was ready for it, and she told me to look for it in her (sorry TMI) poop.  She said when you give her something new, pay close attention to her poop. If the food looks undigested, her stomach is not ready for it and she is not absorbing the nutrients from it. Sure enough, when I gave her the steel cut oats, they came out just like they went in.  Good to know. Since then we have been giving her TONS of other foods, and it has been going really well.

20150805_180726Sleep seems to be the #1 thing on everyone’s mind right now and I am happy to say things are going relatively well for us. Of course now that I’ve said it, she will most likely be up all night. Her nighttime routine is pretty simple (we might be making a few changes here soon, stay tuned). She gets her dinner around 6:30, bath at 7, bottle (typically 3-4 oz), then I nurse her for a little while longer before putting her down around 7:45-8. She is asleep by 8 and sleeps a good 5-6 hours, wakes up between 1-2 am, eats, then goes back to sleep until 4-5 am, eat, sleep, then up for the day around 6:30.  It is working for us right now, but I know that might have to change soon. I think we might try cutting out her nighttime bottle to see how that works out.

2015-08-06Taking naps during the day is going well. She typically goes to sleep around 9 and sleeps for an hour or two, gets up, eats, plays then asleep again around 1. This is another hour to and hour and a half nap, gets up, eats then plays.  During the week, she will take another nap around 3:30 or 4 and is awake by the time I get to my mom’s house to pick her up, but our weekends are so busy that she usually sleeps in the car.  I have been trying to get better at scheduling things around her nap schedule, but it is really hard to be home all day with a toddler. I guess we are lucky she still likes to nap in her car seat. We will see how long that lasts.
