Family Room Renovation Nightmare

Hello friends!

Let’s see where did we leave off.. ah yes, we moved all of the basement furniture into the basement, removed the paneling and we were ready for drywall, crown molding and new carpet…. well that didn’t happen.

The carpet I had picked out was not going to work in the space so we decided to go with a hardwood. Actually we went back and forth between hardwood, engineered hardwood and laminate flooring. We decided to go with hardwood and started asking around for some prices. After getting a few quotes and going back and forth for weeks, or what seemed to be weeks, we finally settled on a laminate floor from Lowes.  I ordered it online and prayed that the color would be the color I had envisioned for the room. You have no idea how many times we changed our minds about the floor, it was exhausting. We will see what it looks like in a few weeks when we are ready to install the floors. We were super excited with the decision to get rid of the carpet completely, so we moved forward.

Erik and I started removing the carpet one night after the kids went to bed.

Bleh! Under the carpet was a vinyl tile that was in horrible shape.  Erik started chipping away at a few pieces before we went to bed that night. Well, right before we fell asleep, I was telling my friend Erin how we ripped up some of the tile and she asked if we were sure it wasn’t asbestos tile. My heart dropped. Erik was really upset with himself for not thinking about it before he started chipping up the tile. We were both so freaked and stressed we could barely sleep that night.

The next day the guys went home a little early so they could put up a temporary wall and safely remove the tile.

We don’t have access to our laundry room other than through the garage, we don’t have access to the garage or the bathroom on the main level. It has been awful. We have two weeks until Thanksgiving to finish EVERYTHING in the family room. Stressed does not even begin to describe how we all feel right now.

I can’t even think of picking out furniture for this room… ugh. I hope things start going our way with this renovation soon!

Sigh. Alright that is all I have for you all today!

I hope everyone has a great day!

Cheers!
