Family Room Saga Continues

Hello hello!

Please remind me never to do any home renovations so close to a holiday, what a nightmare!  After we finally decided and ordered the floors the guys saw a light at the end of the tunnel. They kept chugging along, while I searched high and low for the furniture look that I wanted.

We knew we wanted to get our new furniture at Haverty’s, because that is where all of our furniture is from, so we packed up the kids one afternoon and headed over there. My mom met us there, because quite frankly I cannot make major furniture or decorating decisions without my mom. We spent a good two hours trying to find the perfect piece of furniture and when we did we hit another major roadblock. They told us that the couch/fabric combination we chose would take 8-12 weeks to be delivered. This timeline would have put us at getting furniture end of January/early February. At first we were like ya, we will totally wait for something we love, but decided to sleep on it. We did find an amazing rug. So we left Haverty’s with nothing.

The next day we drove to Ashley Furniture before we went out to dinner and spent another two hours looking at furniture there. I felt so defeated, and stupidly, we ordered couches that I did not love. Finding grey couches that don’t look cheesy is harder than I thought it was going to be.  The couch at Ashley’s was nice but the grey fabric had a slight green tone to it. which would definitely not match my perfect rug. Sigh.

Now that we had a couch (that i hated), we needed to find a new rug…. I had already searched EVERYWHERE for a freaking rug and I hated everything I saw.  Well, my sister came home from school and we went out determined to find something we liked. I took her to Ashley’s to show her the couch and to schedule delivery (for a couch I hated). She confirmed my hatred of the green/grey fabric, but I was over it. I spent most of the rest of that day moping around hating the couch and all the rugs we looked at.

Our last stop in the rug hunt was La-z-boy, and wouldn’t you know it.  As soon as we walked in I found the most perfect couch.  I cried. My mom and I spent the rest of the afternoon driving back and forth between La-z-boy and Ashley’s.  After much debate and consideration we decided to eat the cost of canceling the Ashley’s couches and ordered the ones from La-z-boy.  The lady at the Ashley’s furniture store felt bad for me, so she only charged us 30% of the cancellation fee. Honestly, it was one of the more stressful things I have had to deal with regarding furniture.

The Family room now has two couches and our TV and tv stand. The rug.. oh yes the rug.. I went to Haverty’s to order it and it is on backorder for 8-12 weeks. REDIC. I don’t care, I ordered it anyway and I will not be changing my mind this time.  Hopefully the rug comes in before then, but who the heck knows.

I am going to hold off on pictures of the room until it is done, I cannot wait to show you all what it looks like!

Oh man what a nightmare! At least you got (or will get) what you wanted in the end. Definitely better to wait for the better thing than to settle, especially for something you’ll be using and seeing a lot!
